Museum of Contemporary Aboriginal Art

Is a unique Museum , the only one in Europe entirely dedicated to the versatile, contemporary Aboriginal art from Australia. In alternating exibitions the museum offers an intriguing view on the different movements and actual developments in this powerful art, often in combination with other contemporary , visual arts. This can vary from magnificent paintings to sculptures , tree-bark paintings, photography, video and installations by leading artists from central and northwest regions as well as the main cities.

Museum Catharijneconvent

Beautiful gold and silver, sculptures of saints with miraculous stories, a pair og jeans, wreaths of roses, paintings from large masters sush as Rembrandt,Maria sculptures, video art and centuries-old manuscripts. This and more is on display at Museum Catharijneconvent in Utrecht, located in a fosrmer convent from the 15th century, in walking distance from the Dom Tower. The museum often organises talked- about exibitions, interesting tours and workshops.

Central Museum Utrecht

As the oldest municipal museum of the Netherlands, the Central Museum demonstrates that for centuries Utrecht has been a breeding ground for artistic and cultural talent-both on a national and international scale. The central Museum is home to the largest collection of Rietveld designs in the world, and also exibits work by the world-famous artist Dick Bruna. Another collection definitely worth seeing is the old masters collection with pieces by Jan Van Scorel, Abraham Bloemaert and Hendrick ter Brugghen. Besides works by the iconic figures from Utrecht, the Central Museum provides a historical overview of the past 2000 turbulent years, as well as focusing on contemporary collections of fashion, design and fine arts.

Botanic Gardens

These university gardens, laid out a 19th century fortification, harbour botanic treasures from all over the world. First to catch the eye is a splendid rock garden covering the old fortification buildings. Next are the greenhouse with their wealth of sub-tropical plants and the systematic garden which explains the evolutionary relationship between plant groups. A must-visit is the unique theme garden with its tales on plants and their usage.
